I’ve created a new user and I am still getting this error message. But maybe it is just my system (11.2 running in a VirtualBox)…

I’ll add the link now. Maybe we should just wait for some user’s feedback.

test on my openSUSE 11.2 KDE 4.3.5 and 11.3 rc2 LXDE
    run shutter in terminal
there’s no such message as you state
some xhost problems are caused by a root user GUI
Try use a nomal user account
See if this error can be fixed

    That works great. Thank you.

There is another little prblem (only tested with 11.2). When capturing a window (or section, menu, tooltip) the following error occurs on my system:

    *** unhandled exception in callback:
*** Connection to server failed — (version 11.0)
    *** No protocol specified
    *** at /usr/share/shutter/resources/modules/Shutter/Screenshot/Window.pm line 59
    *** ignoring at /usr/bin/shutter line 2258.

The solution is to execute the following command via terminal:
    xhost +
(access control disabled, clients can connect from any host)

Do you think you can find a solution for this as well? It is the first time I see this error when using Shutter.
