Mario Kemper

I work as a consultant with focus on software quality assurance. You might want to have a look at my interview at to read more about the reasons and goals of the project:

I am addicted to free software and community driven projects. In addition to modest abilities in C/C++, PHP, Java and some experiences with .NET languages I am mostly interested in Perl (Shutter is written in Perl as well) nowadays.

I’m an IT healthcare student in YorkU, Toronto. I’m interested in promoting quality open-source software and my work in Shutter includes expanding it’s popularity and interface design. Programming languages of interest are C and Vala.

  1. I have been using Linux as primary operating system since 1999. I have always searched for feature rick stable and lightweight screenshot utility. Shutter is fantastic! There is nothing I wish it had and I would really appreciate it if this project does not go into oblivion or worse, get bloated with too many features which cater to few people.

I find myself always recommending shutter to anyone who uses Linux.

  2. Great really enjoying it.

  3. There’s at least one serious bug in the program which will probably cause Shutter to be dropped from the Gentoo distribution, and maybe others:

Debian released a fix on 13 Sep 2015 (, but it doesn’t seem to have been taken upstream. I like Shutter very much and use it daily, so I think it’s a shame that it isn’t properly maintained.

  4. it’s very great

  5. Enjoying it too.

  6. Hi,

  7. Absolutely the best screenshot tool.

    Well done Mario! My compliments…

  8. great tool, enjoying it daily !

  9. Ruwinda Fernando

Without a doubt, best tool for screenshots in Linux. I was looking for snipping like tool for Linux and i found just that. Would be real great, if some one can port this cropping method to pidgin chat. So that screen can be shared on that chat window as well. Thanks for wonderful too mario 🙂
